Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel - is Here!

Sept. / Oct. 2006

Confused about those new stickers on the diesel pumps?

Low Sulfur is the older fuel at 500 ppm sulfur max. It is fine for engines before 2007 model year.

Do NOT use in new 2007 model year engines that have the new 2007 EPA compliant engines with Particulate Matter (soot) filters and EGR systems. Note, 2007 model year MHs built in 2006 may have the older engines which CAN use this fuel. Check your engine mfg. for details on the exact cutover dates with your serial number.

Ultra Low Sulfur diesel has only 15 ppm sulfur and is required for all 2007 EPA compliant engines to allow the PM (soot) filters to work properly without becoming clogged prematurely. If you have a 2007 MH, check your engine mfg. to see if your engine requires the new ULSD fuel.

Older engines can run fine on this new Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel.

Excerpt -

Diesel meeting the new specification will be required at terminals by July 15, 2006, and at retail stations and wholesalers by September 1, 2006. Under a “temporary compliance option” (phase-in), up to 20 percent of highway diesel fuel produced may continue to meet the current 500 ppm sulfur limit through May 2010; the remaining 80 percent of the highway diesel fuel produced must meet the new 15 ppm maximum.
