Silent Turn Signal Syndrome (As Ray Fairfield calls them...Blinker Beepers!) Got a new FTL chassis with 'silent blinker signals'? Are you driving down the highway with your directional signals left blinking for miles after you merged onto the freeway because you can't hear the blinkers anymore?
Look no further, if you are handy with a soldering iron...I have the fix!
We are the proud(?) owners of a 2004 Winnebago Vectra on the new Evolution chassis. It has the new FTL MMDC (Multi-module Data Computer) wiring as do most new FTL chassis. The MMDC converts many inputs into simple d-c signals that drive the alarm panel indicator lamps on your main dash display...including the turn signal lamps. The good news...it is efficient and all solid state. The bad news...there is no more turn signal flasher unit with that ole clicking relay we always heard. So, now we leave our turn signals flashing for ~10 miles down the freeway after we merge into traffic because we are concentrating on traffic and no longer can hear the blinkers!!@@
This situation was the creation of the vendor company, Medallion Instrumentation Systems, that makes the MMDC for FTL. FTL does have an optional wiring harness that provides a buzzer for the turn signals... unfortunately many coach builders are not ordering this feature. I received an email from an RVr who has a 2004 Newmar Kountry Star on a FTL chassis, which has a buzzer that activates after about 15 seconds then resets when the turn is completed or you step on the brakes. Maybe Newmar has ordered the optional turn signal buzzer for their chassis? Click here - for a MS Word doc (with pictures) that shows the details and a step-by-step set of instructions. For a complete list of alternatives covering several versions of hardware, see David Damouth's web - http://www.damouth.com/RVStuff/TurnBeep.shtml Have an older FTL chassis with a conventional flasher module, but having difficulty hearing the relay clicking?
